Lovcen national park is one of the most important attractions in the country. And definitely one of the most beautiful ones. Montenegro takes its name from the mountain of Lovcen - Black Mountain.
The park is located only 7 km from Cetinje and 20km from Kotor. If you're going from the coastline (through Kotor) you have an opportunity to drive winding narrow roads that open up incredible breathtaking views. There are a lot of viewing points so you can make a stop and take fantastic photos. There are also quite a few restaurants on the way to the park, with a beautiful view, which offer tasty dishes with a view.
From the viewing points, you can observe the whole bay of Kotor and the beautiful Montenegrin mountains. Besides the restaurants, there are few single benches where you can make a stop, enjoy the view and have a picnic.
The entrance to the national park is paid but isn't expensive. There is a very small parking area so if you're going there in summer by car, there might be pretty difficult to find a parking place. If you're going with an excursion by bus - there will not be any issues.
There is a separate attraction - mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegos - the famous Montenegrin ruler, poet, and philosopher. He was born in the village Njegosi, close to the park. You can buy the tickets to the mausoleum there. Walking through the tunnel, you will go up to the top of the mountain. Even if you will be visiting it in the middle of summer heat, take warm clothes, because it's always pretty cold there.
Climbing to the top of the mountain not only opens the whole country as on the hand, showing the most incredible views, but also makes you touch the sky, watching clouds flying through you or even below you. This is truly amazing! And it's not scary at all! Families with babies walk over there, having truly a beautiful family time, enjoying this amazing nature.
On the territory of the park, you have an opportunity to hike on the trails through the mountains, have a picnic or have lunch at a restaurant there. You can rent bikes or quad bikes there to have an awesome ride.
